Joshua Evans came from a strict Methodist family. The family goes to church every Sunday. He attended Sunday school and later Christian youth sessions. His journey started when he actually read the Bible from cover to cover. He realised there were a lot of things that did not make sense to him.
1) The Bible is filled with Errors!
First of all, he realised that the Bible has many copies and versions, where anyone could have added, deleted or edited the text for their own purposes. He was all confused and questioned the sanctity of the copy, since he does not know which is the true original one.
2) Characters in the Bible are not Exemplary
As he continued reading the Bible, he came across the characters he had learnt in Sunday school. He had learnt about Noah and his Ark, David and Goliath and, Moses and the Splitting of the Red Sea, Jesus and many more during Sunday school. But as he read about them in the Bible, he realised an astonishing fact about some of these people.
They drink or commited adultery or incest. He questioned why these people who had done all the wonderful things, also committed a lot of unethical acts. They were not exemplary at all. he just felt that it was not possible to view these people highly when they were of such negative character.
3) There is Only One God
In addition, there was another fact about praying to one God. He had read in the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Bible which highlights the existence of one God. As such, he was confused about the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) which he has been taught as a Christian.
Joshua Evans left Christianity then and went in search of the true religion. He studied many religions, but none of them seemed intriguing to him until he found Islam.
